Mogadishu, Somalia The Center for Awareness, Female Initiatives and Support (CAFIS), in partnership with VIKES Viestintä ja kehitys -säätiö, successfully conducted a two-day training on Zero Tolerance for Violence in Schools from 23–24 August 2026 at Sahafi Hotel in Mogadishu.
The training brought together teachers and journalists with the aim of strengthening teacher empowerment, enhancing media advocacy, and promoting collaborative efforts to create safer and more inclusive learning environments. Participants explored practical strategies to prevent violence in schools, expose harmful practices, and raise public awareness on child protection.
Throughout the sessions, emphasis was placed on the vital role educators and the media play in safeguarding children’s rights. Teachers were encouraged to adopt proactive approaches to identify and address violence, while journalists were urged to practice responsible reporting that highlights issues affecting children and promotes accountability.
CAFIS and VIKES reiterated a strong and unified message: violence against children must never be normalized, ignored, or hidden. The training underscored the importance of collective action involving schools, media, families, and communities to ensure children learn in safe and supportive environments.
“This initiative is a call to action for all stakeholders to stand against violence in schools and to protect the dignity and future of every child,” organizers noted.
