Mogadishu, Somalia – July 9, 2026 A two-day seminar titled “Empowering Women’s Voices for Peace Through Inclusive Media Reporting” was held at Sahafi Hotel in Mogadishu from 8–9 July 2026, bringing together 25 women from civil society, media, academia, and internally displaced communities.
Organized by CAFIS with support from VIKES, the seminar aimed to strengthen women’s role in peacebuilding, reconciliation, and inclusive governance. Through presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, participants explored key challenges limiting women’s participation in peace processes, including gender-based violence, cultural barriers, and underrepresentation in decision-making.
Speakers emphasized that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without the meaningful inclusion of women, highlighting their critical role not only as victims of conflict but as leaders and agents of change. Discussions also addressed root causes of conflict such as inequality, weak governance, and lack of inclusive dialogue, stressing the need for community-based approaches and stronger institutions.
On the second day, participants focused on practical solutions, including resilience building, inclusive governance, and women’s involvement in reconciliation initiatives. They agreed that empowering women requires coordinated efforts from government, civil society, and community leaders.
The seminar concluded with a collective action plan, with participants committing to promote women’s participation through awareness campaigns, mentorship, advocacy, and challenging harmful social norms.
The event closed with a strong message: empowering women is essential for building resilient communities and achieving sustainable peace in Somalia.
